Tech Lead - Research Workstream

This role is for a technical partner to the Lido on Ethereum research lead. You'll be responsible for the technical part of Ethereum research arm.

Key Scope

  • Participate in protocol discussions at the frontier of both Ethereum and Lido research – e.g. FOCIL vs multiple concurrent proposers – understand the impacts of these discussions on Lido, and be able to propose and effectively communicate alternative options and/or improvements
  • Monitor suggested changes to the Ethereum protocol closely and analyze their impact – on the chain as a whole and on the Lido protocol specifically
  • Develop recommendations for modifications to the Lido protocol based on changes to Ethereum – and vice versa
  • Propose EIPs, review EIP drafts, track related discussions, and provide the dev team with regular updates on what's happening

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in crypto
  • Strong research background
  • In-depth understanding of Ethereum protocol mechanics
  • Regular user of decentralized applications and protocols
  • Experience navigating and participating in open source development discussions

Ethereum Internals

  • Proficient in one or more programming languages
  • Familiarity with Solidity, EVM, EIPs
  • Ability to read and analyze smart contracts

Research Skills

  • Ability to conduct detailed technical and economic analysis of protocol improvement proposals
  • Ability to provide clear and well-founded recommendations for suggested protocol changes
  • Ability to analyze and interpret ethereum-derived data

Experience writing and submitting Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) and/or contributing to ethresear.ch posts is an advantage but not a requirement

About you

  • You are fascinated by what is possible with the Ethereum protocol and love following the latest research on ethresear.ch
  • You are able to autonomously get up to speed with new fields that interest you. You’re good at learning the basics, asking “dumb” questions, and finding the material you need to get up to speed on something important
  • You’re a clear writer and communicator. You’re able to share what you’ve learned with others, increasing the leverage of your work by striving to help others not only understand but even extend your work
  • You love navigating and participating in open source development discussions. You're receptive to feedback, open to alternative viewpoints, and able to communicate effectively to get your point(s) across without offending others
  • You’re independently minded and self motivated. You’re able to work without much oversight, going deep on a topic, until you’ve built a sufficient understanding

Key Factors

  • Work from anywhere in the world
  • Competitive fees in $
  • Flexible schedule
  • Funding for education, including English & professional growth courses
  • Equipment & co-working reimbursement capabilities
  • Overseas conferences, community immersion
  • Long-term incentives

This is a great opportunity to contribute to someone who is fascinated by protocol-level research and development work and wants to engage further. The applicant should not expect a lot of training regarding generic research and development but can expect as much onboarding as is required for understanding and working with Lido and Ethereum.
